6. Thoughts on critique (Esp on/about your heavily followed writing)

Asked by: 921227

I took writing and art classes in school, and class critiques were always part of the lessons. They’re very helpful and I’ve gotten a handful of good critiques from readers in regards to various fic i’ve written, and have tried to implement their feedback into my writing.

However, I am wary about asking openly from critiques from anyone and everyone who reads my/our fics, simply because many of our readers don’t seem to understand, “This fic was good but it would have been better if you’d made it [xyz pairing] instead of [abc pairing]. Next time, fix that,” is not crit ???? and neither is, “I went into this story thinking it would be more [this way], and instead you made it [that way], and I’m disappointed, you should have done it differently.” Like, if you think the way the plot has gone is illogical, or if a twist didn’t make sense, that’s fine, that’s something that obvs needs to be worked out, but, “THIS SCENE DIDN’T GO THE WAY *I* WANTED IT TO GO AND THEREFORE THE STORY IS SHITTY NOW BOOHOO” is not crit. pls go away.

basically if u know how to give proper crit then i welcome you and if you’re just going to whine then begone.
